REMEMBER THIS: Hmmm. . . it's not entirely clear to me why I like this band (and this show) as much as I do. The songs are not all that different, at least not as much as some other instrumental rock bands, and there certainly isn't much at all to the live stage show (save for the musicians swapping instruments between most numbers). I think what makes Tortoise stand out is its undeniable musical emotionality. And if music doesn't make you feel something, what good is it?

REMEMBER THIS:
Yes you are right. Soul Coughing was about one and half
rhythms with about a million and a half rhymes, but it was a very
good one and half, and a very good million. Then they died.
To see Mike Doughty trotting his bloggy self out to play the
ones that don't require a sampler, plus all of his new stuff
that sounds mysteriously like the old stuff, was actually
painful but for the things he shared about himself while
hurting us.
ABOUT 75 PEOPLE WERE WITH ME.
